“All the work on display has a passion that is a rare thing to find in New York theatre. MTS has produced some of the finest plays and playwrights of the past decade. After seeing this wonderfully eclectic selection of work, it is clear the venue is committed to continuing this tradition.” Ingenius 2011, nytheatre.com
Manhattan Theatre Source is proud to kick off its 2012 season with INGENIUS 2012: Secrets Concealed/Secrets Revealed at the Kraine Theater the first three weeks of May. The program includes five one-acts by a group of Indie theater veterans, all members of the critically-acclaimed Writers’ Forum. This years’ festival is a cornucopia of family drama, political intrigue, high ideals, pop culture gone awry and funky film noir.
From John Mckinney’s touching mother-daughter dance FLY SEASON to the love, jealousy and existential angst behind the Mario Brothers video game in C.J. Ehrlich’s THE RED AND GREEN ROOM; from the intellectual combat of Alaina Hammond’s BONES IN THE MACHINE to the origins of a political conspiracy in THE RATIONALE by DeLisa White, INGENIUS 2012 tackles the roots of secrets and the lengths we go to keep them buried with generous helpings of emotion and irreverence. Add to this theatrical crock-pot Ed Malin’s zany, noir satire THE ADVENTURE OF BARRY SACHS and you have insanely entertaining evening of theater.
In its fourth year, this popular downtown production of inventive and powerful short works has evolved into an Off-Off Broadway tradition. As NYTheatre.com pointed out “the festival displays the talents of both vibrant young artists and seasoned pros. It is a great showcase for the tremendous diversity that is New York’s Indie Theater scene.”
